Overview
The Interconnections Senior Planning Engineer will coordinate and perform interconnection studies for data centers, offshore wind, energy storage, public policy transmission, and other new clean energy projects. They will conduct power-flow and short circuit analyses for substations, identify local and system upgrades to maintain reliable electric system operations. Additionally, they will manage internal engineering support activities, interface with NYISO and merchant developers, assess the impacts of new generation/transmission/load projects on the bulk electric system, and recommend modifications to NYISO.
This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.
Responsibilities

- Conduct substation power-flow and short circuit analyses.
- Identify local and system upgrades to maintain reliable electric system operations.
- Manage internal engineering support activities; interface with NYISO and merchant developers.
- Identify new generation/transmission/load project impacts on bulk electric system; recommend modifications to NYISO.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system. or
- Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering and 8 years of work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering 6 years of work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
- Practical experience in the design and /or operation of the electric power system, required.
- Proficient in using PSS/E, TARA, Aspen or equivalent power system simulation programs, required.
- Demonstrated analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Develops and delivers effective presentations
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
