Senior Bookkeeper – Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Congregation Shaarey Zedek (CSZ) is a thriving Conservative synagogue in Southfield, Michigan. We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our financial team as the key front-line connection with members and vendors for financial matters. Key Tasks:
The Senior Bookkeeper works on:
· Accounts receivable
o Billings, maintaining financial information, managing payment collection (checks, credit cards, etc.), and processing deposits for members, renters, caterer, and others—primarily via ShulCloud CRM and QuickBooks Online
o Setting up payment plans for members, processing dues write-offs, and recording religious school scholarships in a timely manner
o Sending out monthly statements, tracking, and following up on unpaid balances with members and renters.
· Accounts payable
o Entering/paying bills, writing checks, vendor maintenance—primarily via QuickBooks Online
o Responding to confirm transactions flagged by positive pay
o Managing and processing approved Ramp credit card transactions
· Financial Statement Responsibilities
o Collaborate with external accountants on account reconciliations
o Facilitate adjustments to financial reports in QuickBooks Online
o Support the preparation and review of monthly and annual financial reports
· Bank and other statement reconciliations, in collaboration with outside accountants
· Payroll processing (biweekly), onboarding new hires, and interfacing with benefits broker
· Purchasing and supply orders for the office
· Assisting with registration and check-in for occasional major events and the High Holy Days
· Other duties as may be requested from time-to-time, including through the ShulCloud CRM
· Professional and sensitive communication with co-workers and members
Qualifications
· At least five years of bookkeeping experience
· Experience using a computerized bookkeeping program for managing financial operations, QuickBooks Online preferred
· Experience using a customer-relationship management system
· Excellent customer service and communication skills, demonstrating empathetic, supportive and discreet communications in all interactions
· Self-directed and capable of managing multiple tasks in a timely and professional manner within a high-volume operation
· Familiarity with, and ability to implement, standard accounting procedures
· Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration
· Use online meeting platforms (Microsoft Teams, Skype, Zoom) for remote communication with co-workers, external accountants, and vendors
· Experience in a not-for-profit environment is a plus
· Requires Associate’s degree, with Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
Compensation
Salary is $43,000 - $53,000 per year, depending upon experience.
