Senior Product Development Engineer

SUMMARY

Designs, develops, and improves products, components, and systems to meet required specifications and industry standards. Reviews product requirements, objectives, and constraints, and translates them into detailed technical and functional specifications. Selects appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to create cost-effective, high-performance solutions. Produces comprehensive technical documentation, including design drawings, specifications, and assembly instructions. Uses SolidWorks to model components and assemblies and to present conceptual designs to stakeholders and customers. Supports production teams with fabrication, modifications, and assembly activities. Perform simulations and prototype testing to evaluate performance, reliability, and safety, collecting and analyzing data to drive continuous improvement. Conducts routine testing of mechanical systems and equipment critical to operations to ensure safe, reliable, and optimal functionality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Monitor prototype builds and oversee testing and evaluation activities.
2. Use the Product Launch System to track project progress and notify management of potential delays through feasibility gate reviews or immediate escalation.
3. Produce required 2D and 3D models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and quality specifications.
4. Assist with or perform performance testing of samples, including mechanical, packaging, cosmetic, and other product evaluations.
5. Conduct competitive product evaluations to assess performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
6. Assist in developing warning labels, user instructions, and assembly documentation.
7. Perform life cycle and durability testing on products.
8. Compile and summarize test data into clear, actionable reports.
9. Lead product update meetings and support product demonstrations as needed.
10. Provide ongoing technical and engineering support to manufacturing teams to improve yields and reduce recurring issues.

AUTHORITY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure new products are reliable, manufacturable, and fully supportable while meeting established cost and quality targets.
2. Contribute to supplier selection processes and provide input to support long-term supplier relationship development and management.
3. Interpret engineering drawings and CAD data to build and/or inspect products or samples and verify compliance with specifications.
4. Develop, manage, and adhere to project timelines while coordinating multiple projects with varying scopes and objectives.
5. Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external vendors to drive projects to successful completion.
6. Authority and responsibility to stop processes for imminent safety concerns.
7. Authority and responsibility to stop processes and shipments for quality concerns.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

1. Five to seven years of relevant experience is preferred.
2. A college degree in engineering or business and SolidWorks experience is preferred.
3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
4. Strong self-motivation, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
5. Effective communication skills, technical aptitude, and ability to work collaboratively.
6. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and coordinate team activities.
7. Availability for domestic and international travel.
