Position Summary
The LPN or RN provides specialized nursing care to patients in a rheumatology practice, including administration and monitoring of intravenous (IV) infusion therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. The LPN/RN collaborates with physicians and clinical staff to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care for individuals receiving biologic and immunomodulatory treatments.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer IV infusion therapies for rheumatologic conditions (e.g., biologics and immunotherapies).
- Monitor patients during and after infusions for adverse reactions and complications.
- Perform IV insertion, venipuncture, and infusion pump management.
- Assess patient health status, including vital signs, symptoms, and response to therapy.
- Provide patient education on rheumatologic diseases, medications, infusion therapy, and side-effect management.
- Coordinate care with physicians, medical assistants, and pharmacy staff.
- Review laboratory results and patient history prior to infusions according to protocol.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with infection control, medication safety, and infusion protocols.
- Assist with prior authorizations, medication scheduling, and infusion workflow as needed.
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or LPN in the state of practice.
- 1 year or more of nursing experience (rheumatology, infusion therapy, or specialty clinic preferred not required).
- Demonstrated experience with IV therapy and infusion administration.
- Knowledge of rheumatologic diseases and biologic medications preferred.
- Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred depending on practice).
- Strong patient assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
Work Environment
- Outpatient rheumatology clinic with infusion services.
- Direct patient care, IV infusion administration, and clinical coordination with providers.
- Performing pulmonary function tests.
- Providing coverage as needed.
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
