About MPE Global
MPE Global is a manufacturer of custom polyurethane processing equipment serving the aerospace, defense, and industrial markets. Our machines combine precision mechanical systems with advanced controls and automation. We are committed to delivering industry-leading quality, innovative solutions, and exceptional service.
Position Summary
MPE Global is seeking a skilled Control Panel Builder to build industrial control panels for custom polyurethane processing machinery.
This is a bench role focused on one thing — building clean, accurate, professional-grade control panels from electrical schematics. The ideal candidate is disciplined, fast, and takes pride in their work. You know wire color codes, you follow the drawing, and you don't improvise. Every panel you build is a one-off for a custom machine, so attention to detail and the ability to work from engineering documentation without hand-holding are essential.
This is a shop role working closely with our engineering and machine wiring teams to deliver panels that are ready to receive field terminations and go straight into functional testing.
Key Responsibilities
Panel Building
- Build and wire industrial control panels from electrical schematics — start to finish, independently
- Install PLCs, power supplies, VFDs, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, and control components per BOM and drawing
- Layout, drill, and prepare enclosures for component installation
- Route, dress, and terminate all wiring per schematic — correct wire type, color code, and ampacity
- Label all wiring and components per electrical standards
- Perform point-to-point continuity checks on completed panels prior to handoff
Quality & Standards
- Follow UL 508A wiring practices — wire color discipline, component selection, spacing, and grounding
- Work strictly from the drawing — no field substitutions without engineering approval
- Maintain organized, clean workstation and follow 5S practices
- Document any as-built deviations accurately and communicate to engineering
Collaboration
- Coordinate with machine wiring team for panel handoff and field termination readiness
- Work with controls engineers during functional testing and startup
- Support continuous improvement of panel build processes and documentation
Key Qualifications
- 3 years of industrial control panel building experience
- Fluent in electrical schematics — reads and executes from prints without assistance
- Solid understanding of wire ampacity, color coding, and termination standards
- Experience installing and wiring PLCs, VFDs, relays, and industrial control components
- Lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety compliance
- Detail-oriented — builds to the drawing, every time
Preferred Experience
- UL 508A panel shop background
- Siemens PLC familiarity
- Experience in a custom or engineer-to-order manufacturing environment
- Short circuit current rating (SCCR) awareness
Key Attributes
- Disciplined — follows the drawing, doesn't improvise
- Takes ownership of panel quality start to finish
- Fast and clean — works at pace without sacrificing craftsmanship
- Comfortable in a low-volume, custom build environment where every panel is different
- Collaborative team player who communicates clearly with engineers and wiremen
