Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the financial operations of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in accounting principles, financial management, and regulatory compliance, with experience in various accounting environments including non-profit, governmental, and public accounting. The Controller will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting strategic financial planning to promote organizational growth and stability.
Duties
- Manage all aspects of accounting functions including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reports in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, and other regulatory standards.
- Oversee cash management activities to optimize liquidity and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Ensure compliance with SOX regulations and other applicable regulatory reporting requirements.
- Month-end and year-end closing processes, including account analysis and account reconciliation.
- Develop and monitor budgets; perform financial forecasting and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Maintain accurate records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or other relevant financial management tools.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to policies and procedures; implement improvements as needed.
- Collaborate with external auditors during audits; prepare audit schedules and documentation.
- Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions involving double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and financial concepts.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to financial systems, processes, and controls.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Extensive experience in accounting roles with a focus on corporate accounting; experience in non-profit or governmental accounting is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, regulatory reporting standards, and technical accounting principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; advanced Excel skills required.
- Demonstrated ability in financial report writing, financial analysis, account reconciliation, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
- Excellent understanding of financial concepts including balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation.
- Experience with account analysis for accounts payable/receivable and payroll processing.
- Strong analytical skills coupled with sound financial acumen; ability to interpret complex data effectively.
