Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for medication administration and direct resident care. This is a noncharge position. The LPN does not have charge nurse duties, supervisory responsibility, or staffing authority.
Essential Job Functions
- Administer medications according to physician orders and MAR
- Perform medication passes accurately and on schedule
- Follow the Five Rights of medication administration
- Monitor residents for medication effectiveness and side effects
- Document medication administration and nursing care in the medical record
- Report medication errors, refusals, and adverse reactions to the RN
- Provide basic nursing care within LPN scope of practice
- Take and record vital signs
- Perform treatments as ordered
- Communicate resident condition changes to the RN or physician
- Follow infection control and safety policies
- Charge nurse responsibilities
- Staff supervision or direction
- Assigning staff or scheduling shifts
- Employee discipline or coaching
- Care plan coordination leadership
- Facility or unit management duties
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of [State]
- Ability to safely administer medications
- Knowledge of MAR documentation
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
