Intake Specialist – Foster Care Program
Are you someone who enjoys connecting people to the right resources, staying organized, and helping families take the first step toward support? Our Foster Care Program is looking for a detail-oriented and compassionate Intake Specialist to join the team!
As the first point of contact for many families and referral partners, the Intake Specialist plays an important role in creating a welcoming and professional experience while helping ensure children and families are connected to services as quickly and smoothly as possible.

What You’ll Do
Referral Processing & Screening

Respond to service inquiries and referrals in a timely and professional manner

Review referral documentation and determine basic program eligibility

Prioritize referrals based on program availability and current openings

Maintain accurate documentation in the agency’s case management system

Serve as a key liaison between referral sources and internal program staff
Intake Coordination

Schedule and confirm intake interviews with families, referral partners, and internal teams
-
Ensure all necessary referral materials are prepared for intake meetings
-
Help facilitate intake interviews with interdisciplinary team members
-
Guide families through the intake process and explain next steps

Provide program tours when appropriate
Admissions & Placement Support

Work with the Intake Supervisor and program staff to determine admissions decisions

Communicate admission outcomes with professionalism and care

Coordinate admission dates and ensure all pre-admission requirements are completed

Gather necessary financial, medical, and educational documentation
-
Prepare and distribute admission summaries to program staff
-
Provide alternative referral options when services cannot be offered
Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate and timely referral records

Ensure all documentation meets licensing and regulatory standards

Assist with tracking placements, discharges, and service changes

Support compliance with CASSP principles, permanency planning practices, and cultural competency standards
Collaboration & Professional Growth

Work closely with foster care, licensing, fiscal, training, and medical teams

Participate in agency meetings, committees, and required trainings

Stay informed on policy updates, best practices, and regulatory changes

Support the team with additional duties as needed

Qualifications:Qualifications Education
• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field preferred.
• Ability to pass criminal background checks including but not limited to Child Abuse, National Sex Offenders Registry, FBI, and Mandated Reporter.
• Fluent in English and Spanish both verbally and written preferred
Experience
• Minimum of two years of direct service experience with children and families in child welfare, behavioral health, or related setting. preferred.
• Experience in placement referral or intake processes preferred.
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR/EMR) systems preferred.
Licensure/Other Requirements
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain CPR certification per agency requirements.
