Duties
- Prepare and serve meals according to prescribed menus and dietary guidelines, ensuring adherence to nutritional standards and special dietary needs.
- Assist with food production, including portioning, plating, and garnishing meals for residents.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas by following proper cleaning protocols and safety procedures.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, mixers, dishwashers, and other food handling tools.
- Support with food handling activities such as bussing tables, cleaning utensils, and restocking supplies to ensure smooth meal service.
- Follow all workplace safety protocols including proper manual handling techniques and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with nursing staff and dietary team members to accommodate residents’ specific nutritional needs and preferences.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety standards such as JCAHO regulations and sanitation practices.
- Ability to handle heavy lifting safely and perform physical tasks involved in meal preparation and service.
- Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks efficiently during busy meal periods.
- Basic math skills for accurate portioning and meal planning.
- Excellent customer service skills with a caring attitude towards residents and team members.
- Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment and adhering to dietary requirements for diverse populations including geriatric patients.
- Certification in CPR and knowledge of safe lifting practices are advantageous but not mandatory; training can be provided.
