Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and dignity.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support clinical procedures such as catheter care, wound dressing changes, and basic medication administration under supervision.
- Maintain patient safety by utilizing proper manual handling techniques and safe lifting practices, including the use of equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Document patient information thoroughly in medical records while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to coordinate care plans and address patient needs promptly.
- Assist with patient transfers using appropriate transfer methods and ensure comfort during movement or repositioning.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring specialized memory or dementia care.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for safe patient care.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/Epic/eClinicalWorks/Cerner) systems for accurate documentation.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and adhere to safe lifting practices during patient transfers or manual handling tasks.
- Strong caregiver communication skills coupled with a compassionate approach to patient service.
- Prior experience in long-term care facilities, hospitals (including ICU or trauma centers), assisted living communities, or home & community care settings is highly desirable.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy or medication administration are a plus.
