THE POSITION

As an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector for the Department of Environmental Protection, you will be part of an organization working to safeguard Pennsylvania's natural resources. This role provides active, hands-on involvement in field inspections and project oversight. Your work will help ensure that construction and reclamation efforts stay compliant and effective. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on inspecting construction for civil, environmental, and mine reclamation projects to ensure compliance with permits, plans, and department standards. As an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Contract Compliance: Apply plans, permits, and specifications to enforce requirements during field inspections
  • Material Evaluation: Accept or reject materials and workmanship based on contract and permit standards
  • Erosion Controls: Inspect erosion and sedimentation control devices and document findings to support corrective action
  • Blast Oversight: Verify adherence to approved blast plans and regulations to protect people, structures, and the environment
  • Project Documentation: Compile daily records at project sites, prepare monthly estimates, and maintain accurate electronic data entries
  • Site Investigations: Evaluate complaints, gather field data, and recommend solutions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This is a field position that will cover project sites in the following Western PA counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Fayette, Indiana, Jefferson, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland. You will be expected to report to the Cambria District Office on an as-needed basis.
  • Telework: You will not report into an in-office location on a regular basis. Instead, you will work from home (telework) when you are not traveling to project sites. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Ebensburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of construction inspection experience on heavy construction projects such as dams, flood control projects, mine reclamation projects, treatment plants, hazardous waste projects, airports, highways or utility installations; or
  • An Associate Degree in Building Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirement:
  • You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
