Construction Inspector

SJCA is seeking a Construction Inspector in Indiana.

SJCA, Inc., a leading civil engineering firm with offices across Indiana, is seeking a full‑time Construction Inspector to support transportation projects across the state. Position Overview

The Construction Inspector provides on‑site inspection, documentation, and coordination for roadway and bridge construction projects. This role ensures contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable standards while supporting communication between clients, designers, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform inspection and observation of roadway and bridge construction activities.
• Document daily work, including materials placed, workforce counts, test results, and progress.
• Serve as liaison between clients, designers, and the Department of Construction Services.
• Maintain communication with INDOT and Local Public Agencies (LPAs) throughout project execution.
• Review work plans, constructability issues, and site conditions.
• Assist with preparation of final construction records, sketches, and supporting documentation.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, INDOT, AASHTO, ASTM, ITM, and FHWA standards.
• Submit timesheets, expenses, and credit card receipts (if applicable) in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to use client software.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to read and interpret plans/specifications and identify errors or omissions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of construction materials sampling, testing procedures, and related equipment.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively, often in inclement weather.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of the INDOT Certified Technician Program (CTP).
• INDOT Materials Testing Certification(s).
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to traverse uneven terrain and safely carry equipment weighing 50 lbs.
• Willingness to travel; approximately 15% office coordination and 85% fieldwork across Indiana.
• 2 years of inspection experience on federally or locally funded roadway/bridge projects, preferred.
• Knowledge of INDOT standards, procedures, and documentation processes.
