Position Summary
Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator / Medical Assistant to join our Primary Care team in Blackshear, Georgia. This dual-role position combines clinical support with referral management responsibilities, making it ideal for a Medical Assistant who enjoys both patient care and administrative coordination.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring patients receive exceptional care by assisting providers with clinical duties while also managing referrals, authorizations, and specialty appointments.
Responsibilities
Medical Assistant Duties
- Room patients and obtain vital signs
- Document patient history and chief complaints
- Assist providers with examinations and procedures
- Administer injections and perform clinical tasks within scope of practice
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain clinical supplies
- Ensure accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Referral Coordinator Duties
- Process and coordinate referrals to specialists and ancillary services
- Obtain insurance authorizations and verify referral requirements
- Schedule referral appointments and communicate details to patients
- Track referral status and ensure timely follow-up
- Maintain accurate referral records and documentation
- Collaborate with providers, specialists, and insurance companies to facilitate patient care
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Medical Assistant certification preferred
- Previous experience in a medical office or primary care setting preferred
- Knowledge of insurance authorization and referral processes preferred
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
