Director of Finance And Accounting

Clayton Services is searching for a Director of Finance and Accounting to join a growing and well-established company in Central Houston. The Director of Finance and Accounting will be responsible for leading accounting operations, overseeing financial reporting, and providing key financial insights to support strategic business decisions.

Job Type: Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $180,000 - $210,000/year annual discretionary bonus

Director of Finance and Accounting Responsibilities:

• Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close processes
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, policies, and financial procedures
• Oversee the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
• Manage and mentor a team of 6–7 accounting professionals, including leadership-level staff
• Own cash management, liquidity planning, and overall working capital performance
• Manage banking relationships, credit exposure, and treasury-related activities
• Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting efforts
• Perform variance analysis and translate financial results into clear, actionable insights for leadership
• Partner with operations and commercial teams to evaluate pricing, margins, and cost drivers
• Build financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic initiatives and capital investments
• Support ongoing system and process improvements, including ERP enhancements and financial reporting tools
• Act as a key bridge between accounting and business operations, providing financial clarity to support decision-making
• Ensure financial processes and infrastructure scale effectively with company growth
• Other duties as assigned

Director of Finance and Accounting Skills and Abilities:

• Strong leadership experience managing accounting teams and developing staff
• Advanced financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting capabilities
• Ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable business insights
• Strong understanding of internal controls, compliance, and risk management
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior leadership
• High level of attention to detail and organizational skills
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ERP system experience strongly preferred

Director of Finance and Accounting Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• CPA or equivalent certification preferred
• 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance leadership roles
• Experience in industries such as commodities, energy, manufacturing, or similar environments preferred
• Proven experience overseeing accounting operations with exposure to budgeting and forecasting processes
• Experience supporting financial systems, ERP implementations, or process improvements is a plus
