Clayton Services is seeking an ambitious Controller to join a growing industrial manufacturing company in the North Houston area. The company is seeking a hands-on leader to improve accounting processes, strengthen financial reporting, and reduce its reliance on outside accounting resources. This individual will work closely with ownership to establish scalable procedures, enhance financial visibility, and help position the organization for continued growth. The ownership team is committed to investing in technology and is open to implementing a modern ERP system to replace the company's current accounting platform.
Job Type: Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $120,000 - $130,000 /year, plus discretionary bonus opportunities

Controller Responsibilities:
- Oversee the company's day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, fixed assets, and month-end close.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for ownership.
- Improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to modernize the accounting department and streamline financial processes.
- Partner with ownership to provide financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and business analysis.
- Assist with inventory accounting, cost accounting, manufacturing variances, and inventory reconciliation.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting standards.
- Coordinate with the company's outside CPA firm for tax preparation, annual audits, and other compliance matters while gradually transitioning more accounting responsibilities in-house.
- Participate in the evaluation and future implementation of a modern ERP system.
- Assist with cash flow management and financial planning.
- Collaborate with operations and leadership to improve reporting, inventory controls, and overall financial performance.
- Supervise and mentor accounting support staff while fostering a collaborative, process-driven accounting department.
- Perform additional accounting and financial responsibilities as assigned.
Controller Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing accounting, inventory accounting, and cost accounting.
- Ability to evaluate existing processes and implement practical improvements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software.
- Desire to grow into a strategic financial leadership role.
Controller Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA designation or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Previous experience as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar accounting leadership role.
- Manufacturing, industrial, or inventory-based accounting experience required.
- Experience with cost accounting and inventory management preferred.
- Experience working with QuickBooks and exposure to ERP systems preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to improve accounting processes and support organizational growth.
