Job Description
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws on adult and geriatric oncology patients
- Accurately identify patients and label specimens according to established protocols
- Handle specimens safely and transport them to the laboratory in a timely manner
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control, safety, and HIPAA standards
- Provide calm, compassionate care to patients who may be anxious, immunocompromised, or physically fragile
- Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff
- Document collections accurately in the EMR system
- Maintain phlebotomy supplies and ensure equipment is clean and functional
- Assist with special collections as required (e.g., timed draws, port-access blood draws if trained)
- Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent)
- Minimum of 1–2 years of phlebotomy experience
- Strong venipuncture skills, including difficult sticks
- Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control standards
- Must be willing and able to travel between clinic locations in Mobile and Baldwin County
- Excellent bedside manner and patient communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally sensitive situations
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently
- Reliable, punctual, and organized
- Experience working in oncology, hospital, or outpatient clinical settings
- Experience with immunocompromised or chronically ill patients
- Familiarity with EMR systems
- Bilingual skills are plus
