CJ 4DPLEX America is seeking an AV Design Engineer I to play a key role in AV system drafting and projection studies, with a strong understanding of architectural coordination. This position requires the ability to quickly engage in projects and make informed decisions regarding technical feasibility.
During the pre-sales stage, the AV Design Engineer works closely with the Sales team to develop drawings and calculations that support the evaluation of venues for transformation into immersive formats. This includes providing recommendations for required modifications and producing drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar platforms.
The role is also responsible for developing detailed design packages that provide all necessary information for AV installation teams and General Contractors. This requires applying AV design expertise while maintaining awareness of electrical and building codes. Close coordination with architects and other vendors is essential to ensure designs are aligned and buildable.
As needed, external vendors may be engaged to support detailed design efforts. The AV Design Engineer collaborates with the Engineering team to review vendor-produced drawings, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Engineering teams in the US and Korea to develop technical drawing packages and design standards
- Develop preliminary drawings and calculations to support venue evaluation and feasibility assessments, providing input and recommendations on required modifications
- Produce detailed design packages that support AV installation teams and General Contractors, ensuring clarity and completeness of documentation
- Participate in coordination with architects, project managers, and vendors to help ensure designs are aligned and buildable
- Maintain organized and accurate CAD documentation for all assigned projects
- Create and update equipment lists and bills of materials
- Develop and modify 2D AutoCAD drawings and dynamic blocks
- Assist in creating mounting details and installation documentation for AV equipment
- Review drawings produced by external vendors for general accuracy and completeness in collaboration with the Engineering team
- Support projection and display system layouts using internal tools and guidelines
- Analyze venue drawings to support placement of AV and special effects equipment and provide input on layout considerations
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth installation and commissioning through well-prepared documentation
Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Media Technology, Technical Theater, Entertainment Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 3 years of experience supporting AV system design and documentation in entertainment, commercial, or related environments
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, with working knowledge of Revit or similar design tools
- Familiarity with AV systems, signal flow, and display technologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality documentation
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- AVIXA CTS certification (CTS-D a plus)
- Familiarity with AV systems networking and synchronization concepts
- Exposure to large-format projection systems and immersive environments
- Basic understanding of image quality factors such as brightness, contrast, and viewing geometry
- Experience working with projection or design tools (e.g., Mapping Matter, VIOSO, or similar)
- Familiarity with major AV manufacturers such as Christie, Barco, or similar
- General understanding of video signal types and transmission (HDMI, SDI, etc.)
- Experience supporting development of system diagrams, drawing sets, or construction documentation
- 5-10 years of experience supporting AV system design and documentation in entertainment, commercial, or related environments

Compensation ranges from $80K to $110K.We adhere to all applicable local laws regarding salary transparency and disclose ranges where legally required. The final offer will depend on a variety of factors including market conditions, candidate experience, internal equity, and other relevant considerations. Offers at the top end of the range are uncommon.
