Staff Development Nurse (RN) Skilled Nursing Facility – ConnecticutPosition Summary The Staff Development Nurse serves as a key educator and clinical leader in our skilled nursing facility, responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating training and professional development programs to ensure nursing and clinical staff deliver high-quality, compliant, resident-centered care in accordance with Connecticut Department of Public Health regulations, federal CMS guidelines, and best practices in long-term and post-acute care.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive orientation programs for new nursing staff, CNAs, and other clinical personnel.Plan, implement, and evaluate ongoing in-service education, mandatory training, and continuing education programs covering clinical skills, infection prevention/control, resident safety, dementia care, wound management, regulatory compliance (including CT DPH and CMS requirements), documentation standards, and emergency preparedness.Assess staff learning needs through performance observations, competency evaluations, quality audits, and feedback; identify knowledge gaps and tailor educational interventions accordingly.Conduct annual and as-needed clinical skills competency testing and validation for licensed nurses, CNAs, and other direct-care staff.Maintain accurate records of all training, certifications, competencies, and continuing education to ensure full regulatory compliance and survey readiness.Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, department heads, and interdisciplinary team to align educational initiatives with facility quality improvement goals, resident care needs, and policy updates.Stay current with Connecticut nursing regulations, federal long-term care standards, evidence-based practices, and emerging trends in geriatric and skilled nursing care; incorporate updates into training content.Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to staff, promoting professional growth, teamwork, and a culture of continuous learning.QualificationsCurrent, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut (required).Minimum 2–3 years of clinical experience in skilled nursing.Prior experience in staff development, education, or training coordination required.Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, regulatory requirements (CMS, CT DPH), and infection prevention practices.Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems.Certification in infection control (CIC) or staff development (e.g., ANCC) a plus.
