What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Safety Instructor position at City of Yucaipa?
- Provides swim instruction to youth, teens, and adults of varying ages and skill levels;
- Prepares lesson plans, materials, and supplies for swim lessons and related programs;
- Maintains the ability to swim with proficiency and endurance;
- Communicates effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and staff;
- Responds appropriately to emergencies and challenging situations in an effective and professional manner;
- Enforces all pool regulations and policies;
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance while providing excellent customer service and fostering positive relationships with staff and patrons;
- Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly facility, including performing daily and weekly maintenance tasks;
- Assists in enhancing Aquatic programming through new ideas and engagement strategies; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 16 years of age and possess a valid work permit if required;
- Knowledge of principles and practices of water safety, rescue methods, lifesaving techniques, and first aid as applied to Aquatic environments;
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays;
- Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification; and
- Possession of a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.

Physical Demands
This position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, squatting, and crouching in the performance of daily duties. This position also requires both near and far vision and acute hearing.
Environmental Conditions
Work is performed outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and temperatures.
