Under the direction of the Assistant Pool Manager, the Lifeguard is responsible for the supervision of programs at the Yucaipa 7th Street Pool. Maximum of 950 hours per fiscal year.The typical duties of this position include:
Physical Demands
This position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, squatting, and crouching in the performance of daily duties. This position also requires both near and far vision and acute hearing.
Environmental Conditions
Work is performed outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and temperatures.
Selection Process
The process may include individual and/or panel interviews, professional reference checks, fingerprint check for criminal history, and other related components. Only those candidates who have the best combination of qualifications in relation to the requirements and duties of the position will continue in the selection process. - Demonstrating proficiency and endurance in swimming;
- Responding appropriately to emergencies and performing water rescues;
- Enforcing all pool rules, regulations, and policies;
- Maintaining a professional attitude and appearance at all times;
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with staff and patrons;
- Providing excellent customer service to the public;
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing;
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly facility;
- Performing daily and weekly maintenance tasks;
- Assisting in the development of new ideas to enhance Aquatics programming;
- Collecting fees for daily attendance and Aquatics programs;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 15 years of age and possess a valid work permit, if applicable;
- Knowledge of principles and practices of water safety, rescue methods, lifesaving techniques, and first aid as applied to aquatic environments;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays;
- Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
