What are the responsibilities and job description for the Motor Equipment Operator III position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Operation Division is looking for a Motor Equipment Operator III to join our Team! Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and supplies.
Operate a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies, to and from job site.
Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal, or sanding of icy streets and roads.
Operate dump truck and/or backhoe in making BMP repairs.
Assist with pump stations maintenance, pond aerator maintenance, sluice gate maintenance, and street sweeper/vacuum truck maintenance
Service and perform minor repairs on automotive equipment include, but not limited to, excavator, frontend loader, and backhoe, vacuum truck
Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.
Has a minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance of storm water drainage systems.
Familiar with erosion and sediment control standards.
Has experience with off road drainage
Position also requires a significant amount of work by hand when cleaning drainage structures, pipes, ditches, removing debris, downing trees, and shoveling sediment.
Has experience with chain saws and other landscaping power tools.
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.
Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.
This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow, etc.).
Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License – Class A (VA or NC)
Pre-employment physical is required.
CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:
- $1,000 with first paycheck
- $1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with “meets expectation” performance rating)
- $2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with “meets expectation” performance rating)
