This is responsible, specialized public safety work at a City of St. Petersburg swimming pool, including maintaining safe swimming conditions, enforcing established regulations, monitoring activities of swimmers, rescuing persons who are in distress, and related activities. Responsibilities include protecting life; applying or directing the application of first aid when necessary; and participating in the maintenance of proper water condition and cleaning of the pools and facilities; Work requires the ability to prevent dangerous situations from arising; to recognize emergencies and take appropriate action; and considerable skill in swimming, rescue work, resuscitation and first aid. This is a seasonal, part time position assigned to one of the City’s swimming pools.
Salary: $18.55 - $24.64 Hourly

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Possess at the time of application and continue to maintain current Lifeguarding Training/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications.
- Be able to maintain physical fitness and sufficient strength to control struggling or disabled swimmers.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Successfully meet the State of Florida good moral character and Level II background screening standards (Florida State Statutes 435.01-435.06).
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Have some experience in water safety instruction and some experience as a lifeguard at a public swimming pool.
- Are skilled in swimming, rescue work, resuscitation and first aid.
