The City of Pleasanton is seeking a caring, energetic individual to join our team as a Preschool Aide and help support a fun, engaging early childhood environment at the City’s Gingerbread Preschool program. In this role, you will assist with classroom setup and clean-up, help guide children through activities, support the Preschool Teacher with daily routines, and help maintain a safe, positive learning environment for young children. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and wants hands-on experience in a City-run preschool program.

In This Role, You Will
  • Assist with classroom and activity setup and clean-up.
  • Help implement classroom activities according to the prepared curriculum.
  • Assist program participants and interact with children under supervision.
  • Work closely with the Preschool Teacher and program staff to support children’s learning and help the classroom run smoothly.
  • Administer first aid as required and help maintain a safe program environment and facility.
  • Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.
  • Perform basic tasks under direct supervision as part of the day-to-day preschool program.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledgeable about early childhood best practices.
  • Able to supervise and lead children ages 2 to 6.
  • Comfortable climbing stairs, squatting, kneeling, sitting on the floor with children, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and follow directions.
  • Capable of developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid prior to starting employment, or able to successfully complete required certification before employment if applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
  • Some experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare, recreation, camp, classroom, or similar setting.

Knowledge of:
  • Basic operational rules and protocols of assigned facility.
  • Ability to learn and perform proper care/storage of program
equipment/supplies.
  • Basic customer service practices.
  • Basic program concepts.

Skill to:
  • Operate activity equipment and tools.
  • Follows directions.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to:
  • Lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Move and set up program equipment and supplies.
  • Climb, squat, kneel, and sit on floor as needed to accomplish job duties.
  • Operate tools and equipment.
  • Assemble basic equipment, tools and supplies.

Additional Requirements:
