The City of Pleasanton is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Building Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department. In this role, you will help maintain and repair a wide range of City facilities and building systems—supporting preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs across more than 130 City-owned buildings. You’ll perform hands-on work in multiple building trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC/heating, and related building maintenance. This position offers a dynamic, service-driven environment where no two days are the same—and where your work has a direct, visible impact on the facilities residents and staff rely on every day!

In This Role, You Will

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs for building systems and equipment, supporting safe and operational City facilities.
  • Complete work orders and service requests, including using the City’s CMMS system (MaintStar).
  • Perform maintenance carpentry such as repairing walls, siding/trim, and replacing/repairing doors, windows, frames, hardware, fencing/gates, and installing shelving.
  • Prepare surfaces and paint using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Inspect, install, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing fixtures/components (e.g., sinks, toilets, faucets).
  • Inspect, install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical fixtures and equipment (including changing ballasts).
  • Perform HVAC/heating preventive maintenance and repairs, including replacing filters and belts, setting economizers/thermostats, and repairing/replacing component parts.
  • Assist with emergency repairs as needed to keep facilities safe, accessible, and operational.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduation or GED equivalent and two years of experience in the building trades or a closely related occupation.
License:
  • Valid California driver's license
Knowledge of:
  • The knowledge of generally accepted construction and repair procedures, related safety protocols, and materials used in the areas of carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related trades/crafts.
