Performs Journeyman level work in the maintenance, repair and installation of general wastewater collection and water utility plant specific electrical equipment and circuits. Work involves installing, replacing, and maintaining electrical systems, apparatus, components of machinery, and equipment. Works under the general supervision of a foreman or supervisor, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May oversee the work of others. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and reports to the Operations Manager.
Examples of Duties
Must possess a high school diploma or GED with 10 years of commercial or industrial experience as an electrician; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must be a licensed Miami-Dade County Journeyman Electrician.

General and specific knowledge of the operations of the assigned department and the service area.
Skill in the use of tools, machinery and equipment necessary for performing and testing electrical repairs and installations.

Work involves walking up to three miles per day, climbing stairs and ladders, working in confined spaces, moving, reaching, handling, bending, and stooping for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of 80 pounds.

Examples of Duties
- Receives work assignments verbally or in hard copy from the foreman or supervisor, and emergency assignments via phone or radio throughout the day; plans and evaluates the work to be performed; identifies and gathers the materials, supplies equipment, and parts that may be need to complete the assignments and performs the assigned work, which may include, but is not limited to installing, repairing, inspecting and testing electrical systems, apparatus, circuits, and electrical components of machinery and equipment.
- Conducts periodic general inspections of assigned facilities or equipment (i.e., the water plant and/or specific pieces of equipment) and communicates with users to determine if there are concerns, and to ensure that everything is operating as intended.
- Maintains and stocks parts, materials and supplies kept in assigned work vehicles as well as inventory storage areas; maintains an inventory of assigned tools and equipment including safety equipment. May be required to purchase parts or other items, with the permission of the supervisor or foreman, using vendor accounts, blanket purchase orders or other purchasing mechanisms authorized by the department.
- Works with and assists other divisions or departments on larger, more complex projects, and may oversee the work of certain crews as it relates to the appropriate handling of electrical systems or equipment.
- Follows all safety standards including the wearing of protective equipment and preparing the work site by setting up appropriate safety barriers and working with customers or individuals in the area to clear the site for work prior to beginning the work.
- Assesses problems or obstacles to completing the assigned work and notifies the supervisor or foreman to determine next steps necessary to complete the work.
- Tests all work performed before leaving the work site to ensure that the system or equipment is working as intended.
- Cleans and restores the work site to its original condition; notifies the supervisor or foreman when assistance is required to restore the site.
- Interprets blueprints and sketches, and interprets schematic drawings of electrical circuits.
- Calculates electrical loads, wire sizes, and lengths and plans the layout of electrical wiring to ensure compliance with specifications and electrical codes.
- Documents work performed in the daily log, notifying the foreman or supervisor of work not yet complete, the materials used or needed to restock the truck or inventory area, and the like.
- Communicates with the public, with customers, vendors and contractors and with other employees on a variety of topics (i.e., seeking their assistance in making the site available, responding to complaints or questions and the like).
- Performs other related duties as required.
