What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Communications Officer position at City of North Miami Beach?
Under general supervision, performs specialized telecommunications work receiving, screening, and relaying information for emergency and other calls utilizing a multi-line telephone and computer aided dispatch system or other means; performing clerical work utilizing various automated and manual systems. Reports to a Police Communications Officer Lead worker.1. Receives telephone calls from the public and others relative to the reporting of accidents, disturbances of the peace, suspicious persons, other emergencies, and a variety of unusual incidents.
2. Maintains communications with patrol officers on the street.
3. Receives information and complaints from the public, in person or by telephone, relays information for police response and dispatches units accordingly.
4. Monitors activity of police units on patrol.
5. Monitors information received via various computer systems utilized by the department and disseminates information to patrol officers.
6. Operates communications equipment utilized by the department.
7. Prepares and maintains logs, activity records, and other written or computerized records or reports for telephone calls received, actions taken, etc.
8. Performs other related duties as required.High school graduate or equivalent. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Must have good typing and computer skills.Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine etc. No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling; some crawling, reaching, and handling, standing pushing, and pulling; extensive sitting. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to ten pounds.
