DUTIES: The Accounting Clerk is primarily responsible for assisting the Comptroller and City Clerk in managing the City's finances, including but not limited to record-keeping and financial reporting. Maintains established account classification; including cash books, voucher registers, general ledgers, and journals; post entries from supporting records; Maintains accounting controls and performs balancing operations on accounting activities. Receives telephone calls and provides complete information to callers in a clear and courteous manner. Updates cemetery files. Sells or transfers cemetery plots. Invoices cemetery's monthly notices. Responsible for ensuring all City Purchase Orders are entered and accurate and paid in a timely manner. Responsible for invoicing funeral homes for services rendered. Assists the Cemetery Superintendent by verifying if plots are available. Complete training and help finalize Cemetery website project. Collections clerk back up and cash balancing alternate with A/P Clerk. Maintains the city forms, letters, memorandum, reports, tabulations, statements, various card records, and other materials from rough draft, dictating machine, or detailed instructions in vault and cabinets. Maintain vault and file cabinet records clean and orderly. Maintain the accounting system tape replacement daily. Maintain and secure all public requests for street closings/road blocks public records etc. request including all proper signatures and keep final files including keeping calendar of approvals not to overlap. Performs other duties as assigned by City Clerk
Preferred Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree with two (2) years' experience in Accounting or Finance**;** Progressive experience in fund accounting or governmental accounting and bookkeeping/accounts reconciliation preferred. OR any equivalent combination of education and experience in public finance or public accounting may be substituted.
PAY RATE: $21.53 hourly
