Recreation Specialist

**

DUTIES: Perform physical and administrative work in assisting the Recreation Director in the activities of the Recreation Department.

**

• Assists in supervising summer playgrounds, fall soccer, football and basketball leagues and other seasonal activities.
• In receipt, inspection, and issuance of materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Assists in physical inventory of materials, equipment, and supplies; maintains inventory records of supplies and equipment; prepares inventory reports as required. Assist in preparation of Recreation Department vehicle reports and maintenance schedules.
• Serves as Department Safety Officer and assists in training of other workers to safely
• Operate and maintain equipment.
• Assist in preparation and maintenance of all athletic, park and playground areas.
• Operates a backhoe digging ditches and trenches, back lifts, and tamps.
• Operates a front-end loader in loading gravel, sand and similar materials on trucks.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment operated and other department equipment.
• Assist in keeping all storage and satellite buildings clean and orderly.
• Participates in the maintenance and removal of trees, hedges, and shrubs; and participates in the maintenance of outdoor equipment at all recreational facilities.
• Participates in the cutting of grass and weeds, and maintenance of recreational parks and facilities.
• Maintains and cleans the maintenance building and keeps an inventory of all equipment, tools, and parts.
• Participates in weed eating at all recreational parks and facilities.
• Participates in the operation of equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, tractors, top dressers, tillers, generators, pressure washers, and other power tools.
• Digs trenches, ditches, and backfills and compacts, area dug; cleans out ditches, loads; and unloads materials and equipment.
• Sprays larvicides and puts out ant poison.
• Distributes grass seed and fertilizer
• Aerates fields and park areas.
• Picks up trash and empties trash receptacles at recreational facilities.
• Maintains records, prepares reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment.
• Participates in construction projects within the parks and playgrounds maintained by the department.
• Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.
• Oversees all Sports Park and City Park maintenance part time staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  
  

DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a community college or two (2) years of college, with major course work in recreation, golf and sports turf management or a related field. OR Graduation from a standard high school and two (2) years' experience in preparation and maintenance of athletic fields or general maintenance
