The City of Lancaster is pleased to offer the 2026 Summer Program for summer work experience to eligible high school and college students. Students who are City residents are encouraged to apply for the positions listed below.
Summer jobs are located throughout the City limits, concentrated in the Public Works department. Most of it is outdoors.
Important Information to consider when applying:
- Candidates must be able to work the entire summer schedule.
- Sports camps and band camps cannot be accommodated.

- Provide general labor and assistance with grounds and landscape maintenance in City-owned parks and public properties, including but not limited to grass mowing, edging, weed trimming, mulching, hand weeding, watering, raking, and planting of new decorative vegetation.
- Provide general labor and assistance in park asset maintenance and repair, including but not limited to painting, sanding, and pressure washing.
- Provide assistance in trash collection from designated receptacles, as well as in general litter and debris cleanup within the public right-of-way.
- Provide assistance in the setup and breakdown of amenities affiliated with special events and gatherings, including but not limited to erecting barricades, staging tables and seating, and pre- and post-event site cleanup.
- Provide assistance in overseeing of the activities affiliated with the Long’s Park Petting Farm, including but not limited to feeding and care of animals in residence (including horses, donkeys, goats, llamas, pigs and large fowl), and supervision of public entrants for compliance with posted rules and behaviors.
- 16 years of age or over (with working permit if necessary)
