The City of La Habra is recruiting for the Lead Teacher position in the Child Development Division of the Community Services department. The Lead Teacher is a supervisory position and requires at least a Site Supervisor Permit (issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing). The Lead Teacher will act for the Site Director in site coordination and supervisory duties at one program site. This position is under Federal and State rules and grant funds for the Child Development Division center-based sites and may be of a limited term.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Under direction, to supervise a childcare site, assist the Child Development Division in planning programs and activities; and to supervise and evaluate the staff.

- Obtain and maintain all certifications for the childcare site as required by educational requirements as established by state and federal guidelines.
- Complete required forms, records and reports for the program and childcare site.
- Review and implement lesson plans, assessments, and child outcomes with teachers.
- Act as a classroom teacher for a portion of the day.
- Supervise, plan, and implement staffing schedules and professional growth, while maintaining an appropriate Teacher/Child ratio, which may include filling in for teachers.
- Oversee the development and implementation of parent participation programs.
- Coordinate and attend program community events outside of the typical workday schedule
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifying Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- The California State Preschool Program (CSPP), Transitional Kindergarten, General Childcare (CCTR), Before and After School-Age programs
- Title V, Title 22, Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS).
- Appropriate child growth and development techniques and theories as related to all developmental areas, including language and literacy, number and math concepts, physical development, cognitive awareness and socialization.
- High/Scope, STEM or Creative Curriculum methodology.
- Supervisory techniques.
ABILITY TO:
- Develop ongoing staff training and coaching.
- Effectively communicate with children, parents, staff and the community.
- Observe and recognize behaviors or conditions in children that may indicate special attention and/or referral.
- Plan a Preschool or School Age program to include the components of meal preparation, child education, staff training, and parent education.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Complete all necessary forms as required.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates attainment of the required knowledge and ability to perform the required work (with reasonable accommodations, if needed), typically:
Experience or combination of experience and education, providing the qualifying knowledge, skills and abilities.
Position requires an Associate’s Degree or higher with 24 units of Early Childhood Education, plus 3 units of supervised field experience in Early Childhood Education or a Child Development Site Supervisor Permit.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) and Bachelor’s Degree is highly desired.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification is required (30 days after employment). Must pass California Community Care Licensing fingerprint clearance to work with children.

- CPR/First Aid certificate for infants and children.
- Food Handlers card.

- Bloodborne Pathogens and HIV Training.
- Provide copies of all mandated certifications and official transcripts with the employment application.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions, read and interpret documents and information; use oral communication skills; interact with City staff, elected officials, residents, the general public and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied and/or abusive individuals.VISION: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; visually inspect work in progress, have sufficient eyesight to read programs, hard copy reports, and computer images, and sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements including typing.
HEARING: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction at normal conversational levels in person and over the telephone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed at indoor and outdoor program sites in seasonal weather conditions. Work may require exposure to noise, dust and dirt. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderately loud when in the field/classroom.
