The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is actively seeking a Custodial Supervisor.

This is service-maintenance work at the supervisor level in the general cleaning and housekeeping of community and senior centers and grounds. Work requires knowledge of the techniques, methods and procedures used in custodial work for senior centers/community centers which is learned on the job or through specialized training. Schedules, trains, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff. Contacts require skills in understanding and influencing people to obtain desired results. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by procedures or precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work is performed indoors and outdoors. Operates hand tools, power tools and cleaning equipment, motor vehicle, cargo van, lift truck and standard office equipment such as personal computers using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other related software, peripheral and electronic devices, copiers, and calculators. The physical demands consist of walking, standing, sitting, bending, climbing, and exposure to dust, dirt and other unpleasant conditions, and occasionally moving and lifting materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker is permitted some latitude to set own priorities subject to superior’s approval.- Schedules, trains, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
- Receives, reports, logs, communicates and resolves maintenance issues.
- Submits work orders into database software and follows up on status.
- Oversees the set-up for meetings and activities.
- Monitors community and senior centers for cleanliness and adherence to procedures.
- Prepares and maintains required records and reports utilizing word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Oversees maintenance and equipment service contracts.
- Responds to complaints and requests for custodial services.
- Schedules and monitors pest control technician in spraying buildings.
- Recommends level of inventory, requisitions replacement inventory, maintains inventory controls, records and conducts periodic inventories.
- Oversees and monitors the requisition, receipt, inspection, inventory, storage and issuance of supplies, materials and equipment.
- Maintains adequate records for proper inventory control.
- Maintains records of senior center building layout blueprints.
- Maintains records of senior center alarm codes.
- Maintains a set of keys to all senior centers internal and external doors.
- Performs minor maintenance of equipment.
- Coordinates the disposal of surplus supplies, materials and equipment.
- Assists division with capital improvement projects.
- Operates a motor vehicle, cargo van and/or lift truck.
- Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other related software, peripheral and electronic devices, copiers and calculators.
- Operates hand tools, power tools and cleaning equipment.
- Communicates clear direction, manages for results and leads organizational change.
- Assigns responsibility, takes corrective action, demonstrates leadership in evaluating, developing and motivating employees.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies.
- Performs related work as required.

- Ability to operate a personal computer utilizing word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to inventory and order cleaning supplies.
- Ability to inventory furniture and computers.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle, cargo van and/or lift truck.
- Two years of education and/or experience in general cleaning and housekeeping of buildings and facilities with a minimum of one year of supervisory experience.
- A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained.
- Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain, and maintain a City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver.
- CPR and First Aid Certification is required within six months of appointment and must be maintained.
- The probationary period for this class is twelve (12) months.
- Pursuant to the provisions of Article 39.4 of the Jacksonville Supervisors Association Collective Bargaining Agreement, this classification will be filled by the Rule of Three.
- Must pass background screening on a local, state and federal level as required by the State of Florida Children and Family Services or Elder Affairs. This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville’s Drug Free Workplace Policy (Directive 0401).
