The Parks, Recreation and & Community Services Department is actively seeking a Disabled Services Community Outreach Coordinator.

This is administrative work in planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring disability related community programs and services. Work requires knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures used in programs for disabled citizens which involve the use of specialized skills, which is acquired through a combination of training and considerable on the job experience. May assign, schedule, monitor and review the work of program partners. Contacts with others require skill in understanding and/or influencing others and are important in providing client services, including skills of persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others point of view that are required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around. Work is standardized in that tasks are covered by substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards, and because of the changing priorities, or different situations, incumbents have the latitude to consider which of the many procedures or standards should be followed and in what sequence. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers using word processing, spreadsheet, database, email and other related software, peripheral and electronic devices, copiers, and fax machines.  The physical demands may consist of lifting, carrying and rearranging furnishings, displays, supplies and equipment for activities, programs and special events which includes lifting and carrying objects weighing less than 30 pounds.  The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker is permitted some latitude to set own priorities subject to supervisor’s approval.
  • Regularly coordinates with internal and external agencies as it pertains to programs and services. 
  • Plans, organizes and executes events, including sports events, community assistance programs, and public awareness campaigns.
  • Works with local organizations, schools, and government agencies to promote and coordinate events and initiatives that support the disabled community.
  • Coordinate the sponsorship program with community partners and management team
  • Plans, organizes and attends community and sports events assigned. 
  • Works closely with marketing team to create promotional materials, distribution lists, and social media content to enhance event visibility and community engagement.
  • Manages event logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, budgeting and scheduling. 
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of outreach initiatives and events; provides regular reports and feedback to management.
  • Designs post event surveys and quality initiatives to provide regular event feedback.  
  • Interviews, assesses, and completes intake forms for citizens applying for programs and services. 
  • Supervises and monitors community assistance programs.
  • Keeps detailed record of citizen profiles assigned to community programs.
  • Establishes and maintains accurate records of outreach activities, contacts and event outcomes; ensure data is properly documented and utilized for future planning.
  • Collaborates with local partners to enhance existing programs, as well as explore opportunities for new partnerships and initiatives.
  • Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers using word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, databases, and other related software. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies. 
  • Operates a motor vehicle.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public and responses promptly.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Knowledge of organizational and promotional methods and procedures relating to administrative support. 
  • Knowledge of development, design, administration, and methods used in promotion of disability related programs and special events. 
  • Knowledge of departmental objectives, policies, and procedures. 
  • Skill in planning, implementing, coordinating, and administering programs and services. 
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and events simultaneously using strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to monitor, oversee and provide guidance to citizens and other employees. 
  • Ability to assign, schedule, monitor and review the work of program partners. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to maintain files and records and prepare reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply provisions of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. 
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, databases, and other related software.
OPEN REQUIREMENTS:
  • A combination of four years of education and/or professional experience in community outreach, administrative support, social services. 
  • At least two of those years must involve work with people with disabilities or disability-related services and programs.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 
The probationary period for this class is six (6) months.
This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville’s Drug Free Workplace Policy (Directive 0401).
