What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLAYGROUND PROGRAM ACTIVITY LEADER position at CITY OF GRAND ISLAND?
DEFINITION:
Lead activities such as crafts, games and other camp activities for children ages 3 – 14 years old that are enrolled in the City Parks Programs and special events.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Coordinator, Playground Manager and Park Supervisor.
Exercises direct supervision over the children in the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
Lead activities such as crafts, games and other camp activities children ages 3 – 14 years old.
Create a fun environment where children will experience and practice positive social skills and improve their physical well being.
Contribute to overall program goal of providing every child quality care and supervision.
Plan and initiate a variety of field games and activities.
Manage children during games and activities.
Teach children at all levels of ability and experience, including children new to sports, games, crafts, etc.
Ensure the safety of every child at all times.
Assist in setting up equipment and distributing supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
Qualifications:Knowledge of:
Operation of a playground and the rules and play of a variety of playground games.
Athletic and other playground equipment.
Arts and crafts materials and equipment.
Ability to:
Serve as a role model to children enrolled in programs.
Show passion, desire and enthusiasm to actively participate in program
Give direction and positive correction to children when needed.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
License or Certification:
None required.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Candidates with experience leading children’s activities are preferred. Must be 16 years of age.
Working Hours:
Position will work Monday-Friday 9:0 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Some weekend hours may be required.
The duration of the position is May through the end of August.
Salary:
Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
