What are the responsibilities and job description for the JANITOR-PARKS SEASONAL position at CITY OF GRAND ISLAND?
Perform a variety of janitorial duties in the City parks, athletic fields and other related areas.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor. May receive technical and functional supervision from a Grounds Maintenance Crew Chief.
Exercises no supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping or scrubbing.
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
Wash and dust walls, tables, doors, light fixtures and windows, using cleaners, sponges and squeegees.
Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, floors and other fixtures.
Fill soap, toilet paper and towel dispensers regularly.
Perform minor plumbing repairs as needed.
Requisition materials and supplies needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
Empty trash containers as needed. Maintain waste receptacles and ensure that they are clean.
Pick up litter (inside and outside) as necessary.
Perform miscellaneous cleaning and specially requested tasks as assigned, including special events as dictated.
Assist City personnel and service providers as needed.
Keep management informed of problems and maintenance concerns. Communicate unsafe conditions to supervisors.
Participate in meetings as required.
Complete required paperwork and checklists of area cleaned and maintained.
Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.
May assist in other sections of the Department as necessary.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Knowledge of:
Basic cleaning and plumbing techniques and maintenance procedures.
Methods, techniques, and procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.
Traffic laws, ordinances and rules.
Purposes and uses of a variety of equipment, power tools and hand tools.
Ability to:
Operate vehicles in a safe and effective manner.
Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and other equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
Be attentive to detail.
Follow directions and work effectively in the absence of close supervision.
Work weekends as special events dictate.
License or Certificate:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
No experience required. Must be 18 years of age.
Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Working Hours:
Hours Monday through Sunday 6:30am - 3:00pm will vary depending on department needs but will include working days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
The duration of this position is April through October.
Salary:
Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
