Job Summary:
Responsible for providing support to control and manage the health and safety of animals (wild and domesticated) and the citizen community.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Must possess required knowledge skills, abilities and experience and to be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Other related duties may be assigned.
•Maintains a safe and clean environment for the housing of animals; feeds and waters all animals; ensures all animal kennels, runs, pens are in good order.
•Responds to requests for animal related services; issues citations for animal violations and conducts community education programs on animal control issues and proper pet ownership.
•Enforces rabies control ordinances and performs tasks required when dealing with rabid animals.
•Maintains files on animal bites and other investigation findings; assists with court cases; performs euthanasia of animals, documents actions regarding animals and drugs and disposes of dead animals
•Maintains all equipment in good working order.
•Cross-trains in Code Enforcement to inspect property per City Ordinance.
Minimum Qualifications:
•High school diploma or GED equivalent
•One (1) year's experience dealing with animals as animal control officer, veterinarian technician or related field
•Basic Animal Control Officer certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Proficient abilities in problem solving, conflict management and customer relations techniques
•Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
•Ability to develop and maintain a positive working relationship with staff, fellow employees, elected officials, supervisors, citizens, business and community groups
•Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information and to comply with all record retention laws
•Proficient skills to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing
•Comprehensive understanding of all City safety rules and operating procedures
•Ability to maintain proficiency and knowledge of current and/or new regulations/legislation within areas of responsibility
Licenses and Certifications:
•Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment
•Must successfully obtain Basic Animal Control Officer Certification within six (6) months' of employment
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
•The incumbent performs work in both an indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to hazardous and unpleasant conditions in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather; exposure to dust, odor and temperamental stray animal hazards
•Work requires frequent stooping and climbing, lifting 100 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, twisting, pulling, pushing and occasional working in tight or confined areas and utilizing tools/chemicals to euthanize animals as required
•Required to work some nights and weekends, during extreme weather and/or emergencies and be "on-call" as assigned.

Salary : $45,205 - $54,829
