What are the responsibilities and job description for the Light Equipment Operator - Bulk Solid Waste position at City of Corsicana?
The City of Corsicana is seeking a qualified individual to join our Public Works team as a Bulk Solid Waste Equipment Operator. This role involves the safe and efficient operation of light equipment such as skid steers, mowers, and trucks to remove brush, debris, and trash, while providing general support to the Bulk Solid Waste crew.
Assist with bulk solid waste operations including:
- Trimming and removing trees
- Lifting and hauling brush and debris
- Mowing, weeding, and clearing drainage areas
- Clean and maintain drainage ditches, channels, inlets, and gutters
- Operate equipment and tools including: mowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, shovels, skid loaders, tractors, trucks, and trailers
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and field repairs
- Support general construction and maintenance activities
- Mow city-owned properties and rights-of-way
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Bulk Solid Waste Division Manager
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating equipment or related work
- Equivalent combinations of education and municipal work experience may be considered
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, and best practices in solid waste and maintenance operations
- Ability to safely operate and maintain light equipment and hand tools
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs., bend, climb, and work in trenches and ditches
- Familiarity with and ability to follow safe work practices
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with city staff, the public, and contractors
Work is primarily outdoors, with exposure to:
- Extreme weather
- Noise, dust, fumes, and physical hazards
- Work in confined spaces, trenches, ditches, and wet or muddy environments
- Must be able to climb onto equipment and work on uneven terrain
- Availability for after-hours work including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts
