What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian (Temporary Position) Activity and Recreation Center position at City of Columbia, MO?
Manual work in the care and cleaning of the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC), the Welcome Center, and surrounding grounds. Includes weekday and weekend cleanings depending on the needs of the facility. Hours vary and have flexibility. Potential for cross training in other areas of the facility.
Applicants should expect to complete a variety of custodial and preventative care duties including: Vacuum, sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors; shampoo carpets; and wash windows and walls. Dust, polish, clean, and move furniture and fitness equipment. Clean and sanitize restrooms, drinking fountains, and stock cart; replenish restroom and facility supplies. Empty trash and recycling from all areas, and power wash assigned areas. At times assist with deep cleaning, grounds, sidewalks, and parking areas; shovel snow and remove debris. Load and unload cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment. Operate vacuum cleaners, buffers, and related cleaning equipment. Develop general understanding of facility procedures and provide customer service to facility users as needed.
At times applicants may be responsible for securing the facility at the end of their shift. Applicants may have opportunities for CPR training and certification when ARC (Recreation Services) staff undergo regular renewals and certifications.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicant must: be 18 years of age; have one year of experience cleaning buildings; have reliable transportation; have the ability to work sporadic hours; and must be able to work independently. Mileage reimbursement is provided if personal vehicle is used to drive between facilities.

A temporary employee position is one created and intended to exist for less than one thousand four hundred fifty (1,450) hours in any calendar year. Temporary employees have no seniority, grievance, or appeal privileges. Temporary employees shall have no benefits except as required by law.
A temporary employee position may be full-time, part-time, variable hour or seasonal.
Part-Time employees do not qualify for sick, holiday, or vacation pay. Paychecks are issued bi-weekly.
