The purpose of this job is to assist in the connection and disconnection of metered services due to account changes. Completes service orders on metered utility services. Collects and records metered service data using GPS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description
  • Investigates complaints regarding bills, re-reads meters, examines meters and connections, and reports defects in service lines or meters.


  • Assists with performing metered services disconnections and reconnections for delinquent utility accounts.

  • Contact customers to investigate and resolve utility billing concerns with metered services.

  • Assists with meter data collection and performing non-critical service orders.

  • Provides general customer service and support.

  • Assists with collection of GPS data.

  • Installs and/or replaces water and electric meters.

  • Regular attention is a necessary and essential function.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for departmental budget allocations. May monitor division- or program/promotional-level budgets and expenditures.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.


  • 1-3 years’ experience in utility operations, preferably with water and electric metering.
Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
Knowledge of:

  • Water meter types, setup, and configuration of radio transmitters.


  • Electric meter types, applicable safety practices, and PPE.

  • Basic National Electric Codes for electric metered services.

  • Common GPS mapping software applications.

  • Relevant laws and regulations pertaining to electric and water metering.

  • Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, equipment, and safety practices of water and electric meters and billing.

Skill in:

  • Typing and/or data entry with minimal errors.

  • Communicating verbally to meet the audience’s needs.

  • Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding.

  • Developing and maintaining effective work relationships.

  • Maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to:

  • Use and maintain hand tools.

  • Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Incumbents are required to feel attributes of objects, grasp, push, stand, walk, drive, reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb/balance, operate mechanical equipment, and move up and down from/to a sitting position on the floor.

$18.87/hr.-$27.56/hr.: commensurate w/training & experience
