What are the responsibilities and job description for the Code Compliance Inspector I - Building position at City of Chesapeake?
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
The successful candidate for the Building Code Compliance Inspector will be able to do the following:
- Perform daily building field inspections on residential and commercial structures in assigned areas to verify compliance with the State codes for the New Construction division.
- Respond to complaints regarding improper building construction
- Ability to work within the work group by fostering good communication and exchange of ideas.
- Communicate the requirements of the codes in a clear and efficient manner.
- Building Code Compliance Inspector will have the ability to integrate the Department and City policies into normal day to day activities.
- Enjoys working with citizens to help resolve issues and complete projects.
- Earn promotions by becoming cross-trained and certified in multiple disciplines.
- Complete all required state training and pass certification exam(s) within 18 month of hire.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards. Special skills or equipment certification may be required.

In accordance with City policy, this position is deemed safety-sensitive. As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing. This drug test includes testing for marijuana.
