The Library Director provides strategic leadership and oversight across the entire Chesapeake Public Library system. This position is responsible for long-range planning, goal setting, budget oversight, and resource management, as well as the overall operation and advancement of CPL’s services and facilities. The Library Director represents the library within the community and serves as a key advisor to City leadership, contributing to the development of policies that support CPL’s mission and the broader goals of the City.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans aligned with City Council’s vision and objectives.
- Collaborate with the City leadership to advance long-term goals and initiatives.
- Direct the preparation, management, and oversight of the operating and capital budgets.
- Promote a leadership culture defined by professionalism, accountability, and excellent customer service.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with staff on performance, professional development, and City updates.
- Cultivate effective partnerships with residents, City departments, elected officials, and library professionals.
- Oversee facility maintenance and capital improvement planning.
- Monitor local, state, and federal policy changes and ensure compliance; develop internal policies accordingly.
- Address public inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Champion community engagement efforts and promote library programs and services.
- Partner with volunteer organizations including the Library Board, Library Foundation, and Friends of the Library.
- Ensure operational excellence across library functions, including administration of the Law Library.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
