🧭 Position OverviewThe Drafter works within the Engineering Service, supporting the Projects & Construction Management team and collaborating closely with Architects. You will assist in developing and maintaining accurate documentation of campus buildings, utilities, and facility changes.
This position plays a key role in ensuring that all drawings and documentation reflect real-world conditions and meet federal standards.
🎯 Key Responsibilities📐 Drafting & Design Support- Develop detailed drawings including:
- Floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, and elevations
- Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and ZLink to produce and maintain design documentation
- Assist architects in creating and updating campus-wide building and utility documentation
- Develop FF&E plan layers and integrate building systems, materials, and traffic flow
- Assist with on-site documentation of buildings and utilities
- Verify existing conditions and identify discrepancies in drawings
- Perform measurements and create accurate, scaled drawings
- Update drawings following moves, renovations, or minor construction
- Maintain and organize drawing files, plans, and project binders
- Update and manage documentation across AutoCAD, Revit, and ZLink platforms
- Support documentation tracking and scheduling efforts
- Ensure all drawings meet VA standards (TIL, ABAAS, ICC, OSHA, Life Safety)
- Review drawings for incomplete or inaccurate information
- Coordinate with architects and project leadership to resolve discrepancies
- Assist in documenting and implementing changes to drawings and plans
- Support administrative tasks including schedules, move plans, and meeting participation
- Coordinate with stakeholders including Engineering, Contracting, Logistics, EMS, OI&T, and end users
- Support documentation schedules and report progress to leadership
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and project partners
- Minimum 5 years of commercial drafting experience
- Associate’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Strong understanding of:
- Healthcare design environments
- Building codes, fire/life safety, and accessibility standards
- Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings
- Skilled in field measurements and scaled drawing
- Minimum:
- 3 years AutoCAD (required)
- 3 years Revit (required)
- 1 year Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- ZLink experience (preferred)
- Microsoft Project and Teams (a plus)
- LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification
- Experience supporting healthcare or large campus environments
- Familiarity with FF&E planning and documentation
- Detail-oriented with strong technical drafting skills
- Comfortable working both in the field and in design software
- Strong problem-solver with a proactive approach to identifying discrepancies
- Excellent communicator in a fast-paced, team-driven environment
