Chester-Andover Elementary School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated PreK-6 School Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in fostering students' academic success, social-emotional growth, and overall well-being within a nurturing and inclusive school environment. The School Counselor serves as a key member of the student support team, working collaboratively with educators, families, and community partners to ensure every student thrives. This is a full-time position, working Monday-Friday 7:30-3:30, starting for the 2026-2027 school year.
Key Responsibilities
Social-Emotional Learning & Mental Health Support
Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students' social-emotional development, resilience, and well-being.
Implement and support a school-wide Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.
Offer crisis intervention and short-term counseling as needed.
Provide referrals to outside mental health professionals and community resources when appropriate.
Academic Support & Student Development
Collaborate with teachers to identify and support students experiencing academic difficulties.
Assist in the development of individualized student plans, including 504 Plans and IEPs, as a member of student support teams.
Teach classroom guidance lessons on topics such as self-regulation, social skills, problem-solving, and resilience.
Family & Community Collaboration
Partner with families to provide resources, guidance, and support that contribute to student success.
Communicate with families regarding student progress, interventions, and available supports.
Work with community partners to connect students and families with external services.
Behavioral & Restorative Support
Implement positive behavioral supports and restorative practices to promote a positive school climate.
Assist in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans.
Support students in conflict resolution and peer mediation efforts.
Equity & Inclusion
Lead initiatives that promote belonging, equity, and cultural responsiveness within the school community.
Provide culturally responsive counseling that affirms diverse identities and backgrounds
Address barriers that impact student learning and well-being.
Schoolwide Initiatives & Team Collaboration
Lead and participate in multi-layered systems of support (MLSS) and student assistance teams.
Collaborate with administration and staff to develop a trauma-informed, supportive school culture.
Conduct professional development for teachers and staff on topics related to mental health, student behavior, and SEL.
Maintain accurate records and adhere to ethical and legal counseling standards.
Salary : $50,140 - $95,940
