Our esteemed client, a Baltimore-based lower middle market investment firm, is seeking an Investment Associate to support all aspects of the investment lifecycle, including evaluating new investment opportunities, executing transactions, and monitoring portfolio companies. The firm provides flexible capital solutions to privately held businesses through subordinated debt, junior secured loans, preferred equity, and minority equity investments.
This is an in-office position based in Baltimore, Maryland, with occasional travel required.
Position Responsibilities
The Investment Associate will play an integral role throughout the investment process, from sourcing and underwriting new opportunities to portfolio management and investor support.
Investment Evaluation & Execution
- Perform comprehensive financial, operational, and commercial due diligence on prospective investments.
- Participate in management presentations, lender calls, and onsite company meetings.
- Analyze competitive positioning, industry dynamics, market size, and growth opportunities.
- Evaluate historical financial performance, unit economics, customer concentration, pipeline activity, backlog, customer utilization, churn, and other key operating metrics.
- Conduct detailed credit analysis and assess investment risks.
- Build and maintain sophisticated financial models, including projections, returns, and sensitivity analyses.
- Prepare investment memoranda and supporting materials for internal investment committee presentations.
Portfolio Management
- Monitor the financial performance of portfolio companies through ongoing financial statement analysis.
- Complete monthly financial spreads and evaluate operating results against expectations.
- Track covenant compliance and identify emerging risks.
- Participate in management calls and meetings while documenting key developments and action items.
- Assist with quarterly and annual portfolio reviews, including valuation analyses.
Marketing & Fund Operations
- Assist with marketing initiatives, presentation materials, website updates, and investor communications.
- Support conference preparation and industry networking activities.
- Maintain CRM, deal pipeline, and transaction databases.
- Assist with fund administration and other operational initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in private credit, private equity, investment banking, leveraged finance, commercial banking, transaction advisory, corporate finance, or another investment-related field.
- Strong credit underwriting and financial statement analysis experience.
- Advanced financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills.
- Thorough understanding of accounting and corporate finance principles.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
