What are the responsibilities and job description for the EHS Specialist position at Chase Technical?
The EHS Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations within a food manufacturing facility. This role plays a critical part in promoting a safe work environment, minimizing risks, and supporting food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, FDA, and local regulatory requirements
Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs
Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments throughout the facility
Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses; identify root causes and implement corrective actions
Lead safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientation and ongoing safety education
Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory records
Monitor and manage hazardous waste disposal in compliance with environmental regulations
Collaborate with Quality and Food Safety teams to ensure alignment with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP standards
Track and report key safety metrics (KPIs), including incident rates and compliance performance
Coordinate emergency response procedures, drills, and preparedness plans
Assist in workers’ compensation claims management and return-to-work programs
Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement across all departments
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred
2 years of EHS experience, preferably in a food manufacturing or production environment
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, GMP, HACCP, and food safety standards
Experience conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations
Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
