What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School Biology Teacher position at CHARLOTTE LATIN SCHOOL INC?
Charlotte Latin School is seeking an Upper School Biology teacher for a full-time, 10-month position beginning August 2026. The Upper School Biology teacher is an integral part of Latin's Upper School faculty. Teachers have the freedom to teach unique, individualized science courses at the Advanced Placement, honors, standard, and elective levels. Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities, advising, and/or coaching.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach 4 sections of Biology (and other sciences)
- Partner with colleagues to create and update course curriculum
- Collaborate with colleagues on grading and assessment practices
- Assess students’ academic performance, including regular grading
- Provide 1:1 support to students during office hours, before and after school
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current within the field
- Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities, advising, and/or coaching
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None
Education and Experience
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; master’s or doctoral degree in Biology or associated area highly preferred
- Experience teaching biology is required
- Experience teaching chemistry or physics is preferred
- Experience teaching a wide variety of course levels is preferred
- Experience teaching in an independent school is preferred

Working Conditions and Environment

- Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.
