Mathematics Teacher (Grades 5/6) Needed
Location: Williston Central School

Williston Central School (WCS) is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Mathematics Teacher (Grades 5/6) to join our general education team starting FY27. We are looking for a passionate, hands-on educator to support our students within a collaborative teaming environment. This position is critical to fostering a growth mindset and mathematical curiosity while serving as a core mentor for students through our advisory program.
Primary Responsibilities
- Planning and instructing engaging math units for 5th/6th-grade students.
- Tracking student learning through formative and summative assessments using a proficiency-based model.
- Facilitating a middle-level student advisory, building strong relationships, and monitoring the holistic growth and goals of a core group of students.
- Working as a member of a collaborative middle-level team to build community, traditions, and team identity.
- Collaborating with grade-level math colleagues and the broader team to ensure instructional coherence.
- Utilizing math practices that create equity, metacognition, and multiple pathways for all learners.
- Communicating proactively and collaboratively with families regarding student progress and classroom initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
- Current Vermont Professional Educators License with a Middle Level Mathematics endorsement (Middle School license with one additional content area preferred).
- Strong content knowledge and experience in middle-level instruction with a developmental understanding of 5th/6th-grade students.
- Deep understanding of the Mathematics Common Core State Standards and proficiency-based grading practices.
- Proven ability to implement effective classroom management techniques and build a strong classroom community.
- Exceptional organizational skills, flexibility, a high-level problem-solving mindset, and solid communication skills.
- Commitment to equitable instructional practices and a firm belief in a growth mindset.
- Ability to foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students and families.
