Job Summary
The Plumbing / Fire Protection Engineer is responsible for the independent design and coordination of plumbing and fire protection systems for a variety of project types. This role focuses on (1) producing complete, code-compliant system designs, (2) collaborating with project managers, engineers, and designers throughout all project phases, and (3) supporting construction and field activities through technical expertise. The position plays a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions and supporting senior engineering staff and project managers.
Key Responsibilities
Design plumbing and fire protection systems for interior and exterior projects with minimal oversight
Prepare plans, schematics, system layouts, calculations, equipment selections, narratives, and specifications
Perform field investigations, site visits, and document existing conditions using measurements and photographs
Coordinate designs with project managers, engineers, designers, and other disciplines
Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, and best practices
Support construction administration efforts, including responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals
Provide technical support to senior engineering staff and project managers
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
5 10 years of plumbing and fire protection engineering experience
Experience designing systems in a professional engineering or consulting environment
Bachelor s Degree in Engineering (preferred)
Special Requirements
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent professional experience preferred
Strong competency in AutoCAD and Revit (willingness to complete a competency test required)
Ability to independently complete design tasks with limited supervision
Ability to travel locally for site visits as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office
Strong understanding of International Plumbing Code (IPC), National Fuel Gas Code, and NFPA standards
Ability to perform system calculations, equipment selection, and technical documentation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Additional Desired Characteristics
Registered Engineer
Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD)
Experience in a consulting engineering environment
Familiarity with multiple engineering and design software platforms
Interest in ongoing professional development
