The successful candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience with cranes, rigging, critical lift planning, and heavy construction operations. This individual must be comfortable working directly with crane operators, riggers, subcontractors, safety personnel, superintendents, and project leadership to safely coordinate multiple lifting activities within a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary field resource for crane, rigging, and lifting operations across assigned project areas.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily crane and rigging activities to ensure lifts are executed safely and efficiently.
  • Review and support development of lift plans, including routine, complex, and critical lift activities.
  • Conduct pre-lift meetings and Job Hazard Analysis / Pre-Task Planning reviews with operators, riggers, signal persons, supervision, and affected trades.
  • Verify crane setup, ground conditions, access, swing radius, load paths, rigging configurations, and surrounding work activities prior to lift execution.
  • Coordinate crane usage, lifting schedules, and equipment placement with project supervision and other trades to minimize conflicts and maintain production.
  • Provide technical direction to crane operators, riggers, signal persons, and subcontractor personnel regarding safe lifting practices.
  • Review crane and rigging inspections and verify equipment is properly maintained, certified, and appropriate for the planned work.
  • Monitor compliance with project requirements, OSHA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and established crane and rigging procedures.
  • Maintain accurate lift documentation, inspection records, equipment records, and supporting project documentation.
  • Evaluate field conditions and modify lift activities when changing conditions create additional risk.
  • Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe lifting conditions, equipment deficiencies, or procedural concerns are identified.
  • Work closely with project Safety Professionals to investigate crane, rigging, or material-handling incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and field training to operators, riggers, signal persons, and project personnel.
  • Support crane assembly, disassembly, mobilization, demobilization, and equipment coordination as required.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and provide input regarding upcoming crane and rigging requirements, site logistics, and equipment needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive crane, rigging, heavy construction, or related field experience.
  • OSHA 30 Construction.
  • Demonstrated experience directing crane and rigging operations on large commercial, industrial, power generation, petrochemical, or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of crane operations, rigging practices, load control, lift planning, and equipment limitations.
  • Experience coordinating critical and complex lifts involving multiple trades and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret crane load charts, lift plans, equipment specifications, construction drawings, and site logistics plans.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable OSHA crane and rigging requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of hazard recognition, Job Hazard Analysis, pre-task planning, and safe lifting practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with crane operators, craft personnel, subcontractors, safety teams, and project leadership.
  • Strong field leadership skills with the confidence to stop or modify work when conditions do not support safe execution.
  • Ability to work in an active construction environment and adapt to changing project schedules and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCCO crane operator certifications applicable to lattice boom, telescopic boom, tower, or specialty cranes.
  • NCCCO Lift Director certification or equivalent documented lift-director experience.
  • NCCCO or NCCER Rigging Level I and/or Level II certification.
