Q Cleared Safety Generalist

CEIS | Critical Energy Infrastructure Services
Los Alamos, NM Contractor
POSTED ON 9/17/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/15/2026
CEIS is seeking an experienced Safety Generalist with an active DOE Q clearance to support construction, maintenance, facility, infrastructure, and operational activities at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

This is a highly field-oriented position requiring a safety professional who is comfortable working directly with construction teams, subcontractors, craft personnel, supervisors, engineers, and project leadership in complex and potentially high-hazard environments.

The ideal candidate brings broad construction and occupational safety experience rather than specialization in one discipline. This individual should be capable of recognizing hazards across multiple scopes of work, evaluating controls, communicating concerns professionally, and partnering with project teams to develop practical solutions that allow work to proceed safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide field-based safety oversight for construction, maintenance, infrastructure, facility, and operational activities.
  • Perform routine field observations, inspections, and safety assessments to identify hazards and verify implementation of appropriate controls.
  • Provide safety oversight of contractors and subcontractors performing work across LANL facilities and project sites.
  • Participate in pre-job planning, job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, safety meetings, and work-package reviews.
  • Evaluate hazards associated with excavation and trenching, fall protection, confined spaces, cranes and rigging, material handling, heavy equipment, electrical work, LOTO, hot work, scaffolding, elevated work, and other high-risk construction activities.
  • Review contractor safety documentation, permits, work plans, and hazard-control measures.
  • Engage directly with craft personnel and supervision to resolve safety concerns in the field.
  • Conduct or support incident, injury, near-miss, and unsafe-condition investigations and corrective-action follow-up.
  • Document field observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and safety performance.
  • Support implementation of applicable OSHA, DOE, LANL, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Participate in safety briefings, coordination meetings, stand-downs, and workforce training as required.
  • Maintain a strong field presence and build productive working relationships with subcontractors, construction management, engineering, operations, and client representatives.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when conditions present an immediate or unacceptable risk.
  • Help teams identify practical solutions that protect personnel while supporting successful project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Active DOE Q clearance required.
  • Significant professional experience in construction safety, occupational safety, EHS, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale construction, industrial, infrastructure, DOE/DOD, nuclear, or other high-hazard environments.
  • Broad working knowledge of OSHA construction and general-industry safety requirements.
  • Experience providing field oversight of contractors, subcontractors, and multiple craft disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of hazard recognition, risk assessment, work planning, and hierarchy of controls.
  • Experience with multiple high-risk scopes such as excavation, fall protection, confined space, cranes/rigging, heavy equipment, electrical safety, LOTO, hot work, and material handling.
  • Ability and willingness to spend the majority of the workday in the field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with craft personnel, supervision, project management, engineering, and client leadership.
  • Professional, collaborative, approachable, and solutions-oriented working style.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of an integrated project team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • CSP, CHST, ASP, OHST or comparable professional safety certification.
  • OSHA 500/510 or equivalent advanced construction safety training.
  • Previous experience at LANL or another DOE/NNSA site.
  • Experience working under 10 CFR 851 and DOE worker safety and health requirements.
  • Experience with subcontractor safety oversight in a federal environment.
  • EM 385-1-1 experience or training.
  • Experience supporting nuclear facilities, national laboratories, mission-critical infrastructure, or complex industrial construction.
