What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Field Inspector position at CEI?
- Location: Fairmont, West Virginia
- Contract: W2 only, 24 month contract with potential for extension or conversion to full time with either the client or CEI
- Pay: $45-48 /hour optional medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match
This role supports field inspection, evaluation, repair oversight, and storm response work tied to transmission infrastructure within the service territory. The position requires strong field experience, reporting discipline, and the ability to interpret engineering documentation while supporting restoration and maintenance efforts. If you have hands-on transmission line and substation experience and are comfortable traveling to project sites, this opportunity offers impactful, field-based work.
Key Responsibilities- Steel structure foundation and repair inspections
- Substation foundation and repair inspections
- Overseeing wood pole treatment and testing methods
- Overseeing steel structure coating crews
- Full evaluation of transmission structures that will help evaluate health of electrical circuits
- Assess storm damage and support emergency restoration crews
- Fill out daily and weekly reports and complete photo documentation
- 5 years of active field experience
- Computer skills to properly fill out daily and weekly reports
- Working knowledge of Word and Excel
- Minimum 5 years; 7 years preferred of knowledge of transmission line work, foundations, stringing of conductors, transmission substations, and facilities
- Knowledge of QA/QC inspections and reporting practices
- Knowledge of various electronics used to create reports
- Must have current and valid driver’s license
- Must be a US Citizen
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications and comparing them with customer or engineering standards
- Proficient in both verbal and written communication
- Ability to create detailed reports
- Travel requirement is based on project location
- Able and willing to travel in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland
- Ability to drive to job location as part of the work day
- Must be able to wear company-provided PPE for the entire shift while onsite:
- Hard hat
- Safety vest
- Safety glasses
- FR clothing
- Steel toe boots, protective shoes, overshoes
- Insect repellent when necessary
- Able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs or more at any given time throughout the day
- Must be able to walk up to 3 miles per day across rough terrain and/or uneven surfaces
